Message from Chair

Fellow MedSIN members,
(and you are all members because you are part of the medical school)

This is a very exciting time as you are visiting our brand new website! Hopefully, you will be able to access a variety of information here including minutes of each project meeting and the committee meetings.

We will be posting all the different activities that go on in the national medSIN and a link up to the National MedSIN site. There might even be scope for a chat forum type thing. The possibilities are endless. We do however, need someone to manage all this so if youre a wiz with computers and would like to get involved then please get in touch.

MedSIN would not be the success that it is today without the support of its members. In just 5 years the national group has grown from strength to strength with almost a MedSIN group in every medical school. Professional bodies are taking notice and if the success of the conferences are anything to go by then we will be expecting great things yet!

In Manchester, we have raised the profile of MedSIN so that most of you know who we are (hopefully!). For those of you that do not, MedSIN-Manchester was only set up 2-3 yrs ago. The group is mainly a campaigning body, which takes part in the debates about world debt, globilisation and health etc. We have an interest in global health and humanitarian issues and MedSIN act as our voice. MedSIN is an NMO, which means that it is the UK representative of the IFMSA (international federation of medical students association). This body supports the issues of medSIN in Europe and is a widely recognised group. Via them, we take part in conferences and can take part in the projects they organise and maybe even exchanges (subject to approval from the medical school).

As medical students and future doctors, we shouldnt be blind to these issues, which have a global effect. If you want to find out more about the national group then the website is: www.medsin.org, there is a link in the box at the top of the page.

Alternatively, if you want to get involved then please e-mail us at: medsin@hotmail.com.

This should give you an outline about the projects that we currently run. We would like to set up more projects but need enthusiastic people to take up this challenge! However, if you dont have that much time then you can be involved in medSIN and its projects as much or as little as you want. Anybody is welcome!
